Disinfectant and baby wipes will clog sewer lines and your septic system.

2/28/2016

Disinfectant and baby wipes will clog sewer lines between the house and the septic tank, Wipes will also build up at the inlet of the septic tank and cause the septic to back up into the house. The build of wipes in a septic tank can make it very difficult to remove solids from the wastewater. They can also move out into your leaching field clogging it making it impossible for water to move out of your tank. If you have an treatment unit, aeration system or pump chamber, the wipes will build up on the equipment and cause failures.  Also wipes contain antibacterial agents that can harm your system destroying the helpful bacteria needed in your septic tank to help treat the wastewater.

What should you do?
Do not use disinfectant wipes or baby wipes in your septic system.
